The rumours turned out to be true this time. Motorola has confirmed that it is looking at the option of dropping its mobile device business as it explores the structural and strategic realignment of its businesses to better equip its Mobile Devices business to recapture global market leadership and to enhance shareholder value.
Motorola dropped to third place in market share behind Nokia and Samsung and its Mobile Devices business lost about USD$388 million in the last quarter.
Motorola will not discuss this further until it completes this study.
