Confirming earlier statements, Mozilla will release an alpha version of its upcoming mobile Firefox browser (codenamed Fennec) next week, according to Jay Sullivan, Mozilla vice president of mobile. For now, it will only be available for the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet but a Windows Mobile version will follow “in the next few months”.
Fennec will include many features found on Firefox 3, including the smart location bar, the Gecko HTML rendering engine, support for extensions, full JavaScript capability and AJAX. It will also come with a touch user interface where buttons and location bar can be hidden and revealed with a simple gesture.
Sullivan expects that there will be two or three additional alpha releases before a beta release is released sometimes in 2009.
