Singapore-based Kohjinsha’s latest UMPC features something that is still quite rare in this class of devices, an optical drive. The dual-layer DVD writer can be turned off to preserve battery life when not needed.
Running Windows Vista , the SR8KPO6S comes with a 800MHz Intel A110 processor with a 945 Express GU graphics chipset. It features a pivoting 7-inch WSVGA touchscreen, 1GB RAM, a 60GB hard drive, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, 2 USB ports and a 3-in-1 card reader supporting Memory Stick, CompactFlash and SD formats. Two battery options will be available, a 2600mAh offering about 3.5 hours or a 5200mAh battery offering up to 7.2 hours of life. It weighs just over 1 kilogram (about 2.4 pounds).
The Kohjinsha SR8KPO6S is expected to be available later this month in the U.S. as the Vye Mini-V S37 Model B. It will sell for about USD$1,500.
