In an interview with The Globe and Mail, Jim Balsillie, RIM’s co-CEO, indicates that RIM is currently in a heavy investment cycle and in the midst of a product lineup overhaul. Aside from the BlackBerry Bold and the BlackBerry Pearl 8220 flip phone, there is also the upcoming touchscreen BlackBerry Thunder (also to be known as the Verizon Storm).
And RIM may not be done. The article also mentions that RIM is also reportedly preparing a second device which features both a touch-screen interface as well as a slide-out QWERTY keypad. In fact, such a device surfaced in a RIM patent back in March. While I think that the Storm mentioned in the article actually refers to the Verizon version of RIM’s upcoming Thunder, we might just see another RIM device before the end of the year.
