According to the Chinese-language Economic Daily News, Inventec Appliances has set up a small R&D team to study Google’s Android mobile operating system in a move that could lead the company to develop Android-based mobile devices in the future. At the moment, the team is relatively small, numbering only in the double digits, but could ramp up to over 100 should Inventec decide to move forward.
Company chairman Jackson Chang indicated that Inventec will not commit significant resources to the project as Google could still adjust its Android business policy after the launch of the first handsets.
Inventec has been involved in the manufacture of mobile devices for a number of years and has partnered with companies such as Hewlett-Packard and i-mate in the past.
