HTC has announced the S740, a slim, compact, and stylish smartphone that provides the perfect combination of a traditional 12-key phone design with HTC’s signature sliding QWERTY keyboard for optimal messaging. It shares its looks with the HTC Touch Pro and shares the same matte black faceted back as the HTC Touch Diamond. According to Dr. Florian Seiche, Vice President of HTC Europe:
“The HTC S740 combines a powerful, premium phone with a full slide-out keypad in a compact and sleek form factor. Clearly, one size does not fit all and the S740 will play an important role in expanding our growing portfolio of devices.”
The HTC S740 is powered by a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 processor and Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard. It comes with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900MHz) and dual-band HSDPA/WCDMA (900/2100 MHz), a sliding QWERTY keyboard, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 256MB RAM and 256MB ROM, built-in GPS /AGPS, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, a 3.2MP camera, an FM radio, a microSD card slot, and a 1000 mAh battery. The S740 measures 116.3 by 43.4 by 16.3 millimeters (4.6 by 1.7 by 0.6 inches) and weighs 140 grams (4.94 ounces).
The HTC S740 will be available in Europe from September 2008. Hopefully a North American version will follow shortly after. Pricing information has not been disclosed yet.
