As reported last week, GIGA-BYTE unveiled not just two new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress but four of them. The press release features only a few specifics but here is what I have been able to find so far. All of the new devices are part of the GSmart MS series.
Up first, GIGA-BYTE unveiled the MS808, the world’s first 3.5G mobile slider TV phone supporting DVB-T, DVB-H, T-DMB, ISDB-T, and integrated GPS. Powered by a 624Mhz Marvell processor and Windows Mobile 6 Professional, it comes with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA (it looks like single-band 2100MHz but confirmation is still needed), 128MB RAM and 256MB ROM, a 2.8-inch VGA display, and a 3MP camera as well as a front-facing VGA one.
The MS804 is another 3.5G phone, this one with a cap-sensor that senses finger touches and digit dial keys. It’s not clear how else it differs from the MS808.
Then there is the GSmart MS800. It is powered by a 520MHz Marvell processor and Windows Mobile 6 Professional. It comes with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA (again single-band 2100MHz likely), 64MB RAM and 256MB ROM, a 2.8-inch QVGA display, integrated GPS, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, an FM tuner, a 2MP camera and a microSD expansion slot.
The GSmart MS820 builds on the MS800 by adding 128MB RAM, a VGA display, a 5MP camera and a g-sensor.
All of the MS800 devices will also ship with a new user interface to offer consumers an easy-to-use environment.
The press release made no mention of the MW700 and MW998 shown on the microsite set up for the Mobile World Congress. I’ll dig some more to see if I can find some more information on these.
