MWg announced today that it will soon release mobile devices that charge by wireless induction. This announcement is part of a new agreement with UK-based Splashpower Ltd., a Cambridge, a developer of wireless power technology.
With inductive charging, you simply place your device on a special pad that plugs into the wall. The device’s electrical battery will then charge wirelessly using electromagnetic induction. The benefit is that the device itself does not need to be plugged in to charge. For example, you could simply leave a charge pad by your door and simply drop and pick up your device on it as you come and go.
There are no details about what devices with this feature MWg will release but they are aiming to have them out around mid-2008.
