The success of the Asus Eee has a lot of other manufacturers paying attention. Everex announced the Cloudbook back at CES 2008 and promised a release date in January. That date has since then delayed it a number of times. It now appears that it will be in stores like Wal-Mart starting on February 15 for USD$399.
The Cloudbook will be powered by a 1.2GHz VIA C7-M ULV processor and the Linux-based gOS. It will come with a 7-inch WVGA (800×480) display, 512MB RAM, a 30GB hard drive (unlike the SSD in the Eee), 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, a 4-in-1 media card reader, 2 USB2.0 ports, and a DVI video port. It weighs about 950 grams (about 2 pounds). In terms of software, it will feature many popular applications like Firefox and the OpenOffice suite.
The first model is not out yet that Everex is already considering future models. According to Paul C. Kim, Director of Marketing at Everex, we will see future models with an SSD, touch screens (expected in Q3), new colours including feminine shades, and larger screens (a 9-inch model is on its way and Everex is even looking at a 22-inch model!)
