Back in September, rumours emerged that Dell was considering once again offering digital music players. After an unsuccessful first attempt in 2006, Dell’s new plan was to offer both both the hardware and software (based on its Zing digital music service acquisition) as Apple and Microsoft have done with the iPod and Zune respectively.
According to Wall Street Journal sources, Dell has decided to put the digital player on hold after testing some prototypes earlier in the year but will continue with the development of the Zing software to manage music, movies and other media.
No reasons were given for the decision but Dell (like Microsoft) would have faced an uphill battle against the Apple juggernaut.
