Australia is set to see its first Google Android-powered mobile phones in January courtesy of Kogan Technologies. The company had promised to offer an Android mobile phone before Christmas for AUD$199 back in early November. It just announced the Kogan Agora and Agora Pro and while it may not have delivered on its original promise, it came pretty close if they can stick to the promised dates.
The Kogan Agora is powered by a 624MHz processor and the Google Android operating system. It comes with quad-band (850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz) GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band (850, 1900, 2100MHz) UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, a 2.5-inch QVGA touchscreen display, 256MB onboard memory and 128MB flash memory, a backlit QWERTY thumb keyboard and 5-way navigation key, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, a microSD card slot, and a 1300mAh battery.
The Kogan Agora Pro adds GPS, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and a 2MP camera.
Both will measure 108 by 64 by 14.8 milliimeters and weigh 130 grams.
Both the Kogan Agora and Agora Pro are now available for pre-order, the former for AUD$299 (about USD$195) and the latter for AUD$399 (about USD$260). Both are expected to start shipping January 29, 2009.
