ASUS has revealed U.S. pricing for its upcoming Eee PC 901 and 1000 series to Laptop Magazine and the trend of increasing price with every new Eee PC iteration continues unabated. WIth each iteration though, the Eee PC has also gotten new features or better specifications.
Both the Linux and Windows versions of Eee PC 901 will cost USD599. The ASUS Eee PC 1000 (with either Linux or Windows) will cost USD$699 while the Eee PC 1000H with an 80GB hard drive replacing the SSD (only Windows will be available) will sell for USD$649. ASUS did indicate the the pricing for the 1000 series could still change before it gets released.
At these prices, the Eee PC, originally designed as a low-cost device, has crept into the territory of other notebooks. At those prices, it becomes an alternative to the larger, more powerful notebooks in the same price range. Essentially you give up some more powerful specifications but gain in the mobility department.
