Ken Dulaney, a Gartner research firm analyst has indicated that Apple has already placed its orders with suppliers for its upcoming 3G iPhone. Citing Asian sources, he goes on to indicate that Apple’s initial order is for 10 million units. He also expects that Apple will continue to offer its first generation iPhone in parallel but will reduce prices further.
The new iPhones would not only come with 3G connectivity but a more advanced OLED display that could help Apple resolve battery life concerns. OLED displays do not require a backlight, making them more efficient and thinner than comparable LCD displays.
Other recent rumours have predicted that Apple will release its 3G iPhone in the May or June time frame. If the order is in the system, a summer release date could be achievable.
