Microsoft announced today at its Mobile World Congress press release that 14.3 million Windows Mobile devices had been sold in the last 6 months alone. Microsoft was quite pleased to acknowledge that it was “ahead of RIM and of course Apple’s iPhone”.
Microsoft had set a goal of selling 20 million Windows Mobile licenses in its 2008 fiscal year and appears to be well on its way. It highlighted the HTC Touch and Samsung BlackJack as two devices that have now sold over a million units, thus gaining admittance into its “Platinum club” .
In contrast, the Apple iPhone has sold about 4 million units since it came out in late June 2007 and Nokia has now sold a total of 7 million Nokia N95s over the device’s lifetime.
