If you want to know what Microsoft has up its Zune sleeve in response to the latest Apple iPods, mark October 16th on your calendar. ZuneScene is reporting that this is the day that Microsoft will unveil its lineup of second generation Zune players. If the rumours are true, we will see a Flash-based Zune player (with either 4GB or 8GB of storage capacity) and an 80GB hard-drive-based Zune.
The Flash Zune is expected in army jeep green, pink, red, and black while the HDD version will only be available in black. Both feature a modified control button that ZuneScene’s source calls a squircle. Instead of a center button, it will have a dome that can be pushed from any side. It will retain the back and play buttons. The leaked image we saw earlier in late August appears to be genuine.
In your opinion, has Microsoft done enough to grab more marketshare from Apple? I didn’t think so…
