DigiTimes is reporting that Verizon Wireless will shortly launch 2 new 3G UTStarcom smartphones. The SMT 5800 and XV 6800 will in fact be manufactured by HTC and are in fact the rebadged HTC S720 Libra and HTC Mogul devices respectively (if DigiTimes is right). Both devices use the Qualcomm MSM 7500 chipset and support CDMA 2000 1x EV-DO.
Despite using the Qualcomm 3G chipset currently being banned in the US, the phones will ship to the US thanks to the exemption that Verizon negotiated with Broadcom.
