In order to comply with an injunction brought on by rival Vodafone, T-Mobile has begun to sell unlocked iPhones in Germany. But it will not be cheap. Whereas an iPhone with two-year contract sells for €399, an unlocked one sells for €999 (about USD$1475).
The injunction filed by Vodafone alleges that the sale of iPhones that cannot work on rival networks is a breach of German laws.
T-Mobile will also allow customers who bought locked phones to have them unlocked. If so, this would mark the first time that a legitimate way to unlock phones is available to customers.
