Pocket-Lint is reporting that Steve Jobs confirmed that a 3G version of the iPhone is coming in 2008. He made the comment at the “Mum is no longer the word” event today where Apple announced the O2 UK version of the iPhone. While Jobs did not say exactly when it would hit the street, it is widely expected in the first quarter of 2008. The rumours of the 3G iPhone go as far back as February.
Jobs also indicated that Apple is hard at work on future iPhones. “We are working on the next iPhone already, the one after that and the one after that,” Jobs said.
Meanwhile, TheStreet.com reports that the next iPhone will come with assisted GPS, according to people familiar with the production plans.
