Back in December, rumours surfaced that Sony was going to launch a movie download service for the PlayStation 3. In a recent interview, Sony’s Phil Harrison confirmed the rumours. Sony has a ten year plan to allow people to download all kinds of digital content to their PlayStation 3 — not just games but movies, music, HD, standard definition TV, you name it, he said.
Details are are still limited but you can expect to see movies from Sony Pictures and music from Sony music at the very least if earlier rumours are right. Sony would then expand the catalog by signing on other studios (much like Apple is doing).
Sony is not quite ready to make an official announcement but the service should be available very shortly.
