Over the past couple of weeks, there has been quite a bit of noise about Palm getting bought out. Nokia, Motorola and private equity firms are or have been in discussions with the PDA maker over the past few months. Over this period of time, rumours have swirled as to who would win the bidding war. At this time, it appears that Motorola is in the lead, according to a major Palm shareholder.
Expectations were that the deal would close yesterday but when Palm released its its third-quarter earnings at the end of the day, there was no news of merger or acquisition.
At least part of the reason for Palm and a potential partner to join forces has to do with the looming threat of the Apple iPhone.
