No big surprise here given Microsoft’s new focus on the Zune but a post by David Bono, a Microsoft employee, in the microsoft.public.windows.mediacenter.portable newsgroup confirms that Microsoft is no longer licensing the PMC software. Device manufacturer received the news late last year and explains the lack of devices using this platform on store shelves. I don’t think we will ever see more formal confirmation than this post.
Much of what Microsoft learned with this platform has and will continue to make its way into not only the Zune portable media platform but also into Windows mobile devices.
