Dual SIM mobile phones (like the Yulong CoolPAD 288 and 728 and the Doubao 728 slider phone) are not new but they remain uncommon. But that is starting to change. Pocket PC Dubai reports that TechFaith is working on a Windows Mobile smartphone codenamed Cynthia which will also have this ability. The benefit of the dual SIMs is that it gives you the ability to carry two phone numbers on one phone (eg, one for work and one for personal use).
In terms of specs, the Cynthia would be powered by a TI processor and Windows Mobile 6 Professional. It would also come with offer quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, 256MB ROM, a 2.8-inch QVGA display, Bluetooth 2.0, a 2MP camera and a microSD slot.
A second version, codenamed Gallic, would come with only tri-band connectivity and 64MB ROM.
The slide that Pocket PC Dubai has landed shows that working samples will be ready in April 2007 and a release will follow in July 2007. If so, TechFaith is far behind schedule with the release of these phones.
The TechFaith Cynthia could be carried by a number of distributors, including i-mate.
