Welcome to the latest installment of the Apple iPod and iPhone rumour mill.
First up, an RBC Capital report expects that Apple will announce iPhone launches in Canada and Europe for sometime between the fourth quarter 2007 and second quarter 2008. Asia will follow by mid-2008. These predictions are based on Apple build plans.
The same report suggests that a 3G/HSDPA iPhone model could be announced for spring 2008. This iPhone would sport a larger display offering a 480×720 resolution. The current iPhone would be upgraded to 16GB at the same time.
On the iPod side, RBC Capital also thinks that new iPods will be announced later this year. The nano could be updated with a larger display, more capacity and integrated Wi-Fi. A new video iPod will also be announced. As other rumours have suggested, it would come with a widescreen touchscreen and be powered by Mac OS X. What is not so clear is whether it will be Flash or hard-drive based.
Meanwhile, over at JP Morgan, an analyst has published a report that suggests that the nano iPhone may be no more than rumour. This contradicts an earlier report from a different analyst at the same company. The new report indicates that a cheaper iPhone is likely but it will be some time before we see one. Instead, Apple will likely focus its attention on a 3G version first.
