Microsoft announced a new 512MB Memory Unit today at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2007. This increases capacity eight-fold over the current 64MB Memory Unit, ensuring that players can easily store and transport their profiles, saved game data, Xbox LIVE Arcade games and Xbox LIVE Marketplace content. The 512MB Memory Unit will be available starting in early April for $49.99 USD. For a limited time only, the new Memory Unit will come pre-loaded with the Xbox LIVE Arcade game “Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved”.
The 64MB Memory Unit will drop to $29.99 USD at the same time.
Microsoft also announced that the Xbox LIVE Arcade game size limit has increased from 50 MB to 150 MB effective today. This gives developers increased flexibility and continued opportunities for innovative game development, according to Chris Early, product unit manager for Xbox LIVE Arcade and Microsoft Casual Games.
