Lexar unveiled the Jumpdrive Mercury USB drive that features a storage capacity meter back at CES 2006. It took a year but Lexar has finally announced that it has begun to ship the Mercury. The drive will also let you encrypt data and comes with the File Shredder feature to securely and thoroughly delete files so they can’t be recovered.
The capacity meter uses an electronic paper display (from E Ink Corporation) to show a 10-bar storage scale. Made of plastic and less than 0.7mm thick, it does not require a battery to maintain the display and is able to determine available capacity without any host software.
Lexar is shipping the Mercury in 1GB and 2G capacities for $69.99 USD and 109.99 USD respectively.
