With all the excitement around the iPhone, we’ve heard little about upcoming iPods. But a few rumours have surfaced.
Prudential Securities research firm expects that upcoming iPods will upcoming iPods could include GPS as Apple moves to make the iPod the central hub for all digital content (music, movies, GPS) in automobiles. More specifically, upcoming video iPods could use the wider touchscreen (similar to that of the iPhone) and Wi-Fi (for GPS and file transfers but not necessarily for over-the-air iTunes purchases).
Apple may also abandon hard drives entirely and move to an iPod line-up that uses only Flash memory by the end of 2007. This would improve the battery life of higher capacity iPods (as compared to hard-drive versions) but this may mean a compromise on capacity.
