HTC has signed an acquisition agreement with Dopod International to purchase all of its assets (9 subsidiaries in Asia including Dopod Taiwan, Dopod Hong Kong and others) for about $14.5 million USD. With this purchase, HTC will begin to offer HTC-branded devices in Asia. This follows similar moves in North America and Europe. The move is in support of HTC’s plan to unify all of its products under the HTC brand and to offer them globally.
Dopod International has been accumulated rich sales and marketing experiences in Asia market and it do provide great advantages on HTC brand management in future. By leveraging HTC’s sales and marketing experiences in Europe and the United States to the Asian market, the acquisition will reinforce HTC’s position as the world’s leading provider of smart handheld devices.
Last year, HTC had already acquired over 50 percent of Dopod shares to make it an HTC subsidiary.
