Microsoft is planning to sell a Zune 2.0 and a flash-based Zune player later this year, if Zune Scene is to be believed. One of the site’s editors recently met a Microsoft employee during a business trip (not Zune related). The Microsoft employee was not aware that the person he was talking to ran a Zune web site and apparently revealed a few secrets.
The Zune 2.0 will look very much like the current Zune but should be thinner and will pack a larger hard drive. The new Flash-based Zune will measure about 3 by 1.25 by 0.25-inches and its screen will take up about 75 percent of the front. Both will sport Wi-Fi and will use the same doubleshot finish.
Microsoft has already completed the design phase although minor modifications may still happen. Production will start in time for 2.4 million new Zunes (about two thirds of them being Flash-based) to hit store shelves for the 2007 holiday season.
Just remember it’s still a rumour although it sounds very plausible.
