Float-a-Pet: Don’t let your pet drown in the pool

Float-a-Pet

Continuing with this week’s theme of pool gadgets started with the radio-controlled water cannon, the Float-a-Pet is meant to ensure that your pet does not drown in the pool or the cottage lake. Invented by Jed Berk, this collar incorporates two safety features to ensure that no harm comes to your pet.

First you get a lighting system that tells you where your pet is in the dark. Powered by small solar cells that charge up during the day, the collar lights up a series of LEDs in low light conditions.

Second, the collar will inflate to ensure that your pet’s head is kept above water when the integrated humidity sensor detects a certain level of moisture. The sensor will activate a CO2 cartridge to inflate the collar. If your pet falls in the water at night, the blinking LEDs will hopefully let you find it quickly.

Two questions: Will the collar inflate if you get caught in the rain? And more importantly, will the other dogs at the park mock yours if he walks around with one of these around his neck?
