DigiTimes is reporting that a flash-based video iPod will be announced in late September. The new iPod will come with 16GB as the major storage media. The report does not indicate whether the new iPod would feature Apple’s new iPhone touchscreen interface.
DigiTimes sources suggest that component makers are concerned that the NAND flash supply could be tight (in other words, we could see higher prices) until at least mid-September and that uncertainty around supplies could continue beyond.
Rumours about new video iPods surfaced back in February with some going as far as suggesting that Apple’s entire iPod lineup could be flash-based by the end of the year.
Earlier iPod videos have so far used 1.8-inch hard disk drives.
