EV-DO Rev. A is barely out that Qualcomm has announced Rev. B with the new MSM7850 chipset. While Rev. A delivered download speeds of up to 800kbps, Rev B. tests have so far averaged download speeds of 9.3Mbps. The new chipset will also be backwards-compatible with previous versions of EV-DO.
EV-DO Rev. B. enables applications such as mobile TV or streaming music with a concurrent voice call, or conducting a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) conversation while simultaneously browsing the Internet or transmitting multimedia content over the network.
Rev. B software upgrades are expected by the end of this month for Qualcomm’s CMS6800 Site Modems. There is no word though on when carriers such as Verizon will begin to offer EV-DO Rev. B to their customers.
