The Google Android open mobile operating system has taken its first step out of vapourware. Japanese mobile operator Willcom recently showed off an early prototype. The demonstration consisted of receiving a phone call while running Google Maps at the same time.
The prototype appears to use an Android reference board and a FreeScale processor.
As you will see from the pictures, we are definitely talking about an early prototype but it is encouraging to see that development is already this far along. It bodes well for us to see Android handhelds later in 2008.
