The CompactFlash Association has announced that it is working on a new Serial ATA interface specification to replace the current parallel ATA standard.
Today, CF cards are capable of sustained rates of up to 40 MB/second and top out at 32GB in capacity. The move to SATA will allow for much faster transfer speeds as well as higher capacities. Just how much faster and bigger the new cards would be was not revealed.
No production and street dates have been announced either for cards using the new standard.
