In his review of the Apple iPod touch, Walter Mossberg of The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple has unofficially acknowledged that some units have defective screens and that the situation is being remedied. Among the screen issues reported so far are very dark screens, inverted blacks and dead pixels.
Hopefully Apple will soon issue a formal statement with details on how customers can get their iPod touch replaced. Let’s also hope that anyone who already returned their iPod touch and was charged a restocking fee will now be able to get that refunded.
It’s unclear when all the defective units will be removed from the market but there are customers reporting that they have not experienced any screen issues with their iPod touch.
Here at Gadgetorama headquarters, I have canceled my online order and I will pick one up in person a bit later (and hopefully not get stuck with one of the defective ones).
