As part of its third quarter earnings report, Apple announced how many iPhones were sold just as Apple’s third quarter came to a close. As expected, the number of activated iPhones is not quite the same as sold iPhones. Some 270,000 iPhones were sold in the last 30 hours of the quarter. While even these numbers may disappoint some analysts, Steve Jobs indicated that Apple expects to sell one million iPhones this quarter (ending in September).
Apple also confirmed that the European iPhone will launch later this year. Asia will see it in 2008.
As for its other products, Apple sold 1,764,000 Macintosh computers (a 33 percent increase over the same quarter a year ago), 9,815,000 iPods (a 21 percent increase) to record revenue of US$5.41 billion and net quarterly profit of US$818 million.
