Apple has announced that Mac OS X Leopard, the latest version of its operating system, will go on sale Friday, October 26, at 6:00 p.m. at Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. “Leopard, the sixth major release of Mac OS X, is the best upgrade we’ve ever released,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “And everyone gets the ‘Ultimate’ version, packed with all the new innovative features, for just $129.”
The new operating system promises some 300 new features, including a redesigned 3D Dock featuring Stacks to organize and quickly access files, an updated Finder interface, a new feature called Spaces to create customized desktops, the Time Machine backup software, and plenty more.
Leopard was delayed this spring as Apple scrambled to complete development of its iPhone.
