The Amp’d Mobile story ends with its sale to a company called Prexar Mobile. Amp’d customers will be invited to switch over to the new company. They will be able to continue to use their existing mobile phones but will need to select new service plans, ranging in price from US$39.95 to US$179.95.
The purchase will be made with a combination of cash and stock. The exact price will depend on how many Amp’d customers switch over, the plans they sign up for and how long they stay with Prexar. Amp’d will also get a 25 percent stake in Prexar.
Prexar Mobile, an MVNO provider, is owned by USA Telephone, a competitive local-exchange carrier operated by United Systems Access Inc.
