As part of its 2007 fiscal year results announcement, Microsoft revealed that it had sold over 11 million Windows Mobile licenses in the last 12 month period. This amounted to an 85 percent growth over the previous year.
Microsoft attributes the explosive growth to the launch of Windows Mobile 6 as well as popular devices such as the HTC Touch, Samsung BlackJack, Sprint Mogul and T-Mobile Dash. There are also over 140 device models available from 48 device manufacturers in all sorts of form factors from 125 mobile operators in 55 countries.
For its 2008 fiscal year, Microsoft has set the goal of selling 20 million Windows Mobile licenses. Accomplishing this would mark the fifth consecutive year where it has basically doubled its numbers year over year.
