Earlier rumours suggested that Rogers Wireless would offer the Apple iPhone in Canada. It now appears that Rogers is trying to distance itself from those rumours and dismissing them as “speculation”. Rogers is the only GSM carrier in Canada and therefore the only carrier that could offer the iPhone (until Apple decides to release a CDMA version).
“We haven’t announced whether we will carry the iPhone,” Odette Coleman, manager of corporate communications for Rogers Wireless, said in an e-mail to CBC News Online. “Everything in the media has been speculations to this point. The only fact is that we are the only GSM carrier in Canada. That’s the only fact.”
It could be that Rogers will hold off to see how the iPhone does in the US before making a decision. Or perhaps its newly launched HSDPA network is a higher priority?
