At E3, Microsoft announced that it plans to extend its Xbox Live service to both its Windows operating desktop as well as mobile phones. The new system will be called “Live Anywhere”. It will allow Xbox 360 players to play online against computer players. Live chat will also be supported.
On the mobile phone side, the new sytem will allow people to download content as well as communicate with each other. For example, you could order Xbox content and upload it to your Xbox so that it would be ready when you get home. A number of games like Bejeweled and Zuma will also be available for purchase.
Live Anywhere will debut on Vista in early 2007. Aside from Shadowrun which was used as part of the E3 demonstration, it is not clear yet which games will be available at the launch of Live Anywhere.
