Engadget is reporting that we could be reading eBooks on future Apple iPods. First, one source has indicated that a major publishing house is sending electronic versions of their manuscripts to Apple. Another source suggests that the next iPod will have substantial amount of screen real estate (think of the rumoured video iPod) as well as a reading mode where the screen goes to monochrome mode and increases contrasts.
Given that the iTunes Music Store already sells music, videos and TV shows with movies apparently on their way, books should not be a stretch for Apple. Apple could even partner with magazines and newspapers to offer articles or entire issues (selling them like a TV show episode).
