You’ve heard of radios that you can handcrank to get a few hours of reception. The concept has now been extended to cell phones. Designed by Andre Minoli, the Motorola PVOT comes with a rechargeable AA battery. Every 25 turns of the crank give you about a minute of talk time. The 125×125 dot matrix LCD display is also powered in the same fashion.
The design was meant to come up with a lower tier phone for Latin American countries. I don’t see why it oculd not be sold across the world. Imagine the latest in phone chic: A hand crank!
