Sony has announced the ultra-compact UX90 series and one model, the UX90PS, will come with a 16GB Flash drive rather than the traditional hard drive. This change has apparently resulted in improved operating speed, improved battery life by up to 13 percent and reduced the unit’s weight by 28 grams to 492 grams. The downside is that if you choose Windows XP as your OS, expect to lose about half of that capacity immediately.
The Sony UX90PS is expected to be priced at about $1800 USD in base configuration. Possible upgrades include the processor (from a Celeron M 423) and the OS (from Linux).
Also announced was the Sony UX90S which will come with a 30GB hard drive instead of the Flash drive.
