Dell has discontinued its lineup of hard drive-based MP3 players, according to The Austin American-Statesman. The actual decision was actually made in late December or early January but never officially commented on this fact until now. Two factors appear to have motivated this decision: First, Dell’s lack of success at taking market share away from Apple (like most other competitors for that matter) as well as the move towards cheaper flash-memory players.
Dell will continue to offer the Dell Ditty, its 512Mb flash-based player as well as music players from other device makers (like Creative).
