Nintendo has announced a recall for some 3.2 million Wii Remote Control straps. There have been a number of reports since the Wii went on sale of straps snapping and controllers flying out to hit people, televisions and other objects located near the playing area. Q”People tended to get a bit excited, especially while playing Wii sports, and in some cases the control would come loose from their hands,” company spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa said. The replacement straps will have a diameter of 0.1cm (or 0.04 inches), about twice as thick as the original straps.
Replacements can be obtained at local Nintendo service centres. Nintendo’s web site also has a Wii Remote Wrist Strap Replacement Request Form.
Nintendo has also recalled some AC adapters for its DS and DS Lite consoles but this is recall is limited to Japan.
