On the heels of Nikon’s announcement of the D80 digital SLR camera (which I just bought this week) comes the announcement of the D40 entry-level DSLR. Billed as Nikon’s smallest DSLR ever, it comes with a 6.1 megapixel CCD imaging sensor, a 3-area autofocus, support to shoot at up to 2.5 frames per second, 2.5-inch color LCD monitor with 3 colorful display options (Classic, Graphic and Wallpaper), RAW and JPEG format support, in-camera image editing (including D-Lighting, red eye correction and filter effects) and a 2.5-inch display.
The Nikon D40 will be available starting in December 2006. It will sell for $599.95 USD with a 3x 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens (about 3x zoom).
