While Apple appears to be making progress on getting movies on its iTunes Movie Store, a new analyst report suggests that Apple’s much rumoured video iPod could be delayed as much as six months. The main issue appears to be the conflict between getting good battery life while maintaining a reasonable screen size. Apple is apparently experimenting with different solutions, including better battery management software, a bigger battery and the use of both flash memory and microdrives.
Similar delays could also affect the iPod nano refresh that had been expected later this year due to a change of suppliers for its system-on-a-chip hardware. New nanos could arrive as late as December rather than September.
