More details about the HP iPAQ rx4000 Mobile Media Companion family that we first heard about back in September have emerged. The new line is launching with 2 consumer models: The rx4240 and rx4540. Powered by Windows Mobile 5.0 and a 400MHz Samsung processor, both models come with a 2.8-inch landscape-oriented layout QVGA screen, 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and a SD/MMC slot. The rx4540 will also come with an additional 1GB of flash storage. For those who can read Japanese, check out the HP Japan web site.
So far, the release is limited to Japan. The iPAQ rx4250 is immediately available for ¥32,550 (about $300 USD) and the rx4540 will follow in December (¥42,000 or about $370 USD).
HP Japan will also offer an iPAQ rx5000 Travel Companion, in this case the rx5965 with a bigger 3.5-inch QVGA screen, 2GB of Flash storage and a SiRFStar III GPS chip and antenna.
