While the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office may have overturned a number of NTP’s patents, RIM continues to face challenges in its dispute with NTP. Today, the US Supreme Court declined to hear RIM’s appeal to review the patent-suit ruling that could see RIM having to shut down services, affecting over 4 million US subscribers. Effectively, the Virginia disctrict court will now dictate what happens next.
Despite RIM’s claims that it has an alternate solution in store if the order does come down, many experts feel that RIM will end up settling with NTP to the tune of up to $1 billion USD!
