Rumours that Microsoft was working on its own device to compete against Apple’s iPod have been swirling for a while. Now, Reuters is reporting that sources close to the project have revealed that Microsoft will begin selling a wireless digital music and video player by Christmas. Unlike the iPod, this device will let uses download music and videos over the air.
Microsoft is apparently also working on a new media software that will work much the same way that the iTunes Music Store works with the iPod. Couple that with rumours taht Microsoft has been talking about licensing with the same recording companies and it becomes plausible that Microsoft is getting ready to launch its own music service. Where would that leave Urge, its partnership with MTV though?
Prototypes will be sent out to record companies in the near future; hopefully we can get more details on this device then.
